Iloilo City "Sa Lugar Lang"

Mode of transporation in Iloilo City is public utility jeepney (PUJ). These PUJ had a route in the streets of Iloilo City. People just go designated loading and unloading areas to ride and go to their destination within the city of Iloilo.

Iloilo City PUJs

"Sa lugar lang" (in proper place for unloading) is a phrase used in telling the driver that you want to get off the jeepney. Even I am still about 50 meters away from the proper unloading area, I would normally tell the driver "sa lugar lang." The driver would usually murmur something “Hindi di pwede manaog!” (you can’t get off from here). Then I would usually say to them that I’m not getting off from here that’s why I said “sa lugar lang”.

For how many years of driving PUJs in Iloilo, these drivers still don’t know what “sa lugar lang” means. Well, I guess this is because of the system in the giving license to drivers of PUJ. Most of them paid fixers to give them license and bypass all examinations and seminars. You can randomly ask a PUJ driver and ask about traffic rules and regulations and they may only know less than 50% or maybe just 25% of the traffic rules and regulations. And these drivers are usually abusive. They just overtake whenever they want to, load/unload in almost anywhere even in the middle of the streets and many more. Of course, officials in Iloilo City will not mind these issues and make an ordinance to fix this, because they might lose votes during the re-election. This is what happens when we saw mistakes and we don’t correct them to avoid conflicts with others.

Selfish acts of the PUJ drivers plus selfish acts of officials plus selfish acts of the masses equals?
